Summary

Description
English: The DAKHSHINESWAR TEMPLE was founded by RANI (Queen) of Janbaazar RASHMONI in 1855 on the east bank of the Ganges river.

The main temple is of NABARATNA (with 9 spires) style. It houses a KALI idol standing on the chest of a lying SHIVA. The two idols are placed on a thousand-petaled lotus made of silver. Besides the main temple, there are 12 smaller SHIVA temples & a Temple dedicated to LAXMI-NARAYANA. This is a major place of pilgrimage in West Bengal, especially for the followers of SRI RAMAKRISHNA DEVA.
